BHA
BHA, or salicylic acid is a Beta Hydroxy Acid that is most commonly used for treating acne and targeting dead skin cells.
What is it used for?
BHA, also known as salicylic acid has a plethora of uses in skincare. Mainly used as a treatment for acne, thanks to its anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial and exfoliating properties; this active ingredient works to neutralise bacteria within the skin, helping to prevent blemishes and future breakouts. With the ability to penetrate deep into the epidermis, BHA offers deep pore exfoliation as well as working as an effective treatment on the skin’s surface. While this ingredient is often found in professional salons, percentages of 0.5-2 have been accredited for safe at-home use.
What are the advantages of using it?
As an oil-soluble, BHA is great at clearing away daily dirt and grime in addition to clearing pores of excess sebum without manual exfoliation. Due to its natural exfoliation properties, BHA works to treat existing blemishes but also helps prevent future breakouts by targeting bacteria within the skin before it has chance to develop into imperfections. Further benefits include an active improvement to the skins production of collagen, resulting in a visible reduction of fine lines and wrinkles; in addition to working to improve the overall thickness of skin and protective barrier function for a complete healthy function.
